Napoleon’s Routs Napoleon’s Rout is a massive tourist attraction that stretches across southern France. It was opened in 1932 and follows the historical routs that took Napoleon Bonaparte back from his exile on the Isle St Elba. The road is marked with miles stones engraved with the 8 headed eagle symbolic of Napoleon.
Napoleon disembarked a boat on the 1 of March 1815 in the Golf-Juan near Cannes, with his faithful supporters that helped him return to power. Napoleon crossed the mountains to avoid the royalist towns.(these towns did not want a Emperor they wanted a King). This is the reason for the curvy rout.
Napoleon's Rout links the Mediterranean Sea to Grenoble but also goes through the towns of Grasse, Digne, Gap and ends in Vizille at Chateau de Cornage. During this trip the supporters trail snowballed making Napoleon’s following large and large by each town. within six days his follower became a real army that stormed Paris and put Napoleon back in power.
